DAY
01, DELHI:Early morning transfer to the airport to fly to Udaipur.
Breakfast on board. UDAIPUR:Arrive
the Lake City of Rajasthan, popularly called the 'Venice of the East', and transfer
to the hotel. Udaipur is one of the most beautiful Indian cities and with a relatively
low population, it is certainly the quietest. A romantic collection of gardens
filled with blossoming trees and fantasy island palaces simmering in mirror-calm
lakes and most favorite destination among travelers. The city was founded in the
15th century by Maharaja Udai Singh, the ruler of the foremost Rajput clan, the
Sisodios, who claimed direct descent from the sun. But the city's history lies
mainly in one that of blood and glory. Udai Singh left his son, Maharana Pratap,
a difficult legacy - Udaipur fell under immediate attack from Akbar, the Moghul
Emperor with only meagre resources at his disposal. Maharana Pratap kept the Moghuls
successfully at bay for 25 years, before finally being overpowered in 1576. Afternoon
take a city tour visiting Sahelion-Ki-Bari, city Palace and the romantic Lake
Palace, Fatehsagar Lake, Museum etc. Evening at leisure. Meals and overnight at
the Hotel. DAY
02, UDAIPUR - CHITTORGARH: Morning take a half day excursion to
Chittorgarh. The ancient Mewar capital of Chittorgarh represents the quintessence
of Rajput valor and chivalry. Three times in its long and bloody history, faced
by overwhelming odds, its menfolks dressed up in saffron robes of martyrdom and
rode out to confront death, while its women walked into the sacrificial bonfire
and committed ritual mass suicide. Carved marble memorials to heroes and Sati
victims litter the broken ruins, making this oldest and most famous of all Rajasthani
Fortress towns perhaps the closest to the warrior Rajput's heart. Visit Rana Kumbha's
Palace, Fateh Prakash Palace, Tower of Victory, Gaumukh reservoir, Padmini's Palace
and Tower of Fame. Return to Udaipur for meals and overnight at the Hotel. Morning
depart for Mount Abu - a drive of 5 hours which is most romantic. The trail runs
through the rugged Aravali Hills and stark deserts. MOUNT
ABU:Arrive Rajasthan's only hill-station which lies on a 3900 feet
high plateau, in pleasantly green and lush surroundings and check into your hotel.
'Abu' derives its name from 'Arbuda', the serpent son of the Himalayas who rescued
Shiva's bull, Nandi, from a watery grave - a belief of religious mythology, Today,
Abu is a popular hill-resort with pretty lake, several good hill-walks, a refreshing
mountain breeze. Evening at leisure. Meals and overnight at the hotel. DAY
04, MOUNT ABU:Morning visit the world famous Dilwara Temples, possibly
the finest examples of Jain architecture found in India. There are five temples
but two of these, the Vimal Vasahi and Luna Vasahi, represent the finest Jain
architecture to be found in India. Vimal Vasahi (Adinath) temple, built completely
of white marble, is dedicated to the first Jain Tirthankar, Adinath. It took 1500
sculptors and 1200 laborers, 14 years to complete. Spend afternoon at leisure.
In the evening transfer to Abu railway station to connect superfast overnight
train, in the comforts of A/C cabin, for Delhi.
DAY 05, DELHI:Arrive around 1000 hrs and the rest of the
day will be at your disposal for personal activities. Later, transfer to the airport
to connect the onward flight. |
