SIKKIM AND DARJEELING REGION

All praise be to the twin regions of eastern Himalayas for their beauty and wonderment. Earlier known as 'Shangri-La' the last Himalayas, it's now the 22nd state of India. Being remote and far, its population was sparse but it was abundantly gifted by nature in variety of flora and fauna. There for a few treks that are allowed are amazing.

Its earlier inhabitants were 'Lepchas' from Assam. Later on after the Tibetan migration into Sikkim and the Lepchas withdrew to the remoteness of 'Dzongu'. Its capital Gangtok is on the ridge of Ranipul River. It affords wonderful view of Kanchenjunga (8586 metres) and the peaks of Singli Ridge- which is between Nepal and Sikkim.

Rumtek the best monastery of Gyalpa Karmapa (Tibetan Buddhism) is found here. Sikkim provides most eloquent of Tibetan handicrafts and artifacts and 'Tankas '(religious Buddhist paintings). It also provides the view of the royal rising of morning sun from Tiger Hill Snowy mornings of Sikkim awakes with the ringing of the manein the strewn monasteries all over. YUKSAM TO DZONGRI & GUICHA LA

REGION : SIKKIM HIMALAYA
SEASON : APRIL TO OCTOBER
DURATION : 15 DAYS
GRADE : MODERATE
HIGHEST ELEVATION : 4940 METRES

This route is, at present, the only one open for trekking in Sikkim. Yak herders have followed the trail to Dzongri from the villages around Yuksam (1760 m), a former capital of Sikkim for many centuries. You can see sunrise over Kanchenjunga range from Tiger hills. The trailheads north through bamboo bushes of Yuksam region before entering oak and pine forest high above the Rathong River. At Dzongri & Guicha la trail gives panoramic 360 degree view of some of the highest mountain peak of the world like Kanchenjunga main peak (8586 m), the central peak (8482 m) and the south peak (8476 m) Talung (7365 m), Kabru (7338 m), Rathong (6679 m), Kokthang (6600m) etc. These peaks provide an impressive mountain wall, which encloses the Rathong glacier and the Rathong river flowing south to Yuksam.

SANDHANKPU TREK

REGION : EASTERN HIMALAYA
SEASON : APRIL TO OCTOBER
DURATION : 11 DAYS
GRADE : INTRODUCTORY
HIGHEST ELEVATION : 3636 METRES

This trek also open for trekking in Eastern Himalaya consists of the Sikkim Himalayas and the hills and mountains near Darjeeling. It is famous for high peaks like Kanchenjunga the third highest peak of the world and many other attractions like Buddhist monasteries and Sun - rise from the Tigerhill. This region is also famous for flora and fauna. Trail gives enchanting view of Kanchenjunga and Everest while walking through Rhododendron forests full of varied wild flowers. Also visit Mountaineering Institute and Museum, Zoological Garden, Tibetan Centre, Racecourse and temples.
