LAHAUL, SPITI AND KINNAUR REGION
An empyrean maneuvering some 30 million years ago, floretted
into the infant ranges called the Himalayas, covering 3000
Kms of the earth's crust. This innovated land in contrivance
with nature conceived comprehensively beautiful sites of
which Himachal Pradesh is one. Lahaul and Spiti, its largest
districts are clasped by Ladakh, Tibet, Kinnaur and Kullu
valley. Manifested, with cool and convivial summers, the
valley stand like a prelude to Nirvana. They reel in herbage
and foliage and shone their best sheen's of alpine blossoms
on bosoms green - apart from other multifarious yields jigging
the heights, Kunjum - La (4270 Metres) separates Lahaul
from Spiti which is a recently discovered trekkers paradise.
It has isolated Buddhist gompas and remote hamlets. Inhabiting
its tranquility and serenity are friendly, quite and warm
inhabitants- the harbingers of Buddha's peace. It contains
repositories of Buddhist art and cultural heritage. The
season from mid June to November is monsoon free therefore
there is plenty of cool and crispy air with plenty of golden
sunshine. These valleys hibernate from November to mid June
in heavy snowfall.
Kinnaur is another masterpiece of nature's munificence.
Its population is sparse. On its north is Zanskar range
which forms the border with Tibet. It is wetted by river
Sutlaj riggling down from Mt. Kailash. On the south of Kinnaur
is Sangla valley - stunningly beautiful in the entire range.

A great off the beaten Trek. Lahaul and Spiti is Buddhist
country and seldom visited by outsiders. Architecturally
the village houses are built of stone and plastered with
mud, with flat rooftops. They are very attractive and the
surroundings too are a delight to the eye. Also enjoy spectacular
Jeep safari via Kunjum-la. Visit rich ancient Buddhists
monasteries of Ki, Kibber, Tabo, Lallung, Dhankar and experience
the remote life of Spiti. These valleys are unsurpassed
in the splendour of their snow-covered peaks. The climate
is dry and very cold. The whole valley is surrounded by
high mountains on all sides, and great Himalayas to the
north, and Pir-Panjal to the south.

This is extremely popular. It offers spectacular views of
the Greater Himalayas, and contrasting views of thickly forested
Kullu valley and the barren rugged and untamed valleys of
Lahoul & Spiti. Highly recommended for those who want to see
the Himalayas at their beautiful and rugged best. The trek
to Baralacha-la (4950 m) involves some river-crossings with
a rope and harness plus experience in their safe use. In early
part of season, residual snow bridges are often in place,
making the river crossings quite straightforward. Batal is
situated at the base of the mighty Kunzum-La (4550 m). Batal
area is particularly important geologically as the Pir-Panjal
Range, the main Himalaya and the Baralachga Range merge near
the Kunzum-La. Batal is also starting point for the Chandertal
Lake (the lake of moon)- A majestic serene lake surrounded
by mighty Himalayan peaks. A vast meadow, is the camping site
on the banks of this enchanting lake. During springtime, it
is carpeted with hundreds of kinds of wild alpine flowers.
